The human body is fascinating. Each muscle has an important role in the overall function of our body. It would be impossible to choose the "most important" as without any one muscle, the body cannot function optimally. However, one of the most crucial muscle systems in our body to overall injury-prevention, pain-management, and general rehab, would have to be the glutes. If you are unable to recruit your glutes, they are slow to fire, or are weak in any capacity, this can cause a plethora of pain and injury patterns.
Aside from the more obvious presentations of hip and low back pain, any number of injuries could be related to non-optimal functioning of the glutes. If you have experienced any of the following issues, it may be time to revisit with your physio how your glutes are performing:
Plantar Fasciopathy
Achilles Tendinopathy
Patellar-Femoral Pain Syndrome
Patellar Tendinopathy
ITB "Syndrome"
Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (Shin Splints)
Tight Hip Flexors/TFL
Chronic Ankle Sprains
Chronic Low Back Pain
